Describe your experience at CALS
The first semester in junior year was quite overwhelming since I had just transferred and I was trying to catch up with other juniors. After I gradually got used to the environment, I was very happy about what CALS offered me. For example, there are 14 Program of Studies in Biological Sciences. It was very flexible to choose a variety of courses to fulfill both the requirements as well as my interests. I am almost always able to find help if I need to, either from my peers or from CALS counselors. I am very happy that I chose CALS as my transfer institution.
Advice to a prospective student looking at CALS
Don't be afraid to talk to your professors. Yes, the class can be very large and can seem a little intimidating. But the best way to know a professor or a TA is to e-mail them and make an appointment to meet them. Really, Cornell/CALS never gets bored. The key is to explore as much as you can and decide what you want to be involved in according to your interests and passions.
Activities
Phantom of the Opera Orchestra (from a student's honor senior thesis) Member of Women in Science at Cornell (WISC) Transfer buddy.
Hands-on Experience
I volunteered at the Museum of the Earth a few times through WISC. For Genetics 281, I had eight weeks of lab experience with Drosophila and other various microbiology and molecular biology techniques.
