The past several months have been eventful and rewarding on many fronts.
Several CALS faculty members have taken on very significant campus leadership roles with decided potential for international impact. Most recently, it was just announced that Alice Pell, professor of animal science and director of the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture, and Development, will begin work July 1 as Cornell’s vice provost for international relations. Anurag Agrawal, associate professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Christopher Barrett, the Stephen B. and Janice G. Ashley Professor of Applied Economics and Management, have begun serving as associate directors of the Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future. And Professor Ronnie Coffman, director of CALS International Programs, is directing an international effort, backed by $26.8 million from the Gates Foundation, to counter the spread of a virulent new strain of wheat stem rust.
