Describe your experience at CALS
My experience at CALS has been extremely fulfilling. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to major in Communication and minor in Applied Economic Management, two amazing programs that will prove of great use to me in my future endeavors. In addition to academic gains, I’ve also been able to found my own organization working with the CALS Office of Admissions with diversity consulting and the CALS Career Office with marketing and advertising various career-related events. What’s great about CALS is the accessibility of the faculty and staff who provide such an encouraging learning environment for students.
Advice to a prospective student looking at CALS
I would advise a prospective student to think long and hard about what kind of atmosphere they would thrive in. There’s a plethora of interesting classes and engaging organization just within CALS, not to mention Cornell as a whole. For some the abundance of choice is exactly what they are looking for, and these students find themselves in their element at CALS.
Activities
Multicultural Organization for Communication Affairs (MOCA), Co President/Founder Teszia Belly Dance Troupe, President Ithaca Tangueros, member CU Satellite Project Team, Public Relations Manager International Investors Quorum (I3Q), Vice President of Marketing.
Hands-on Experience
As a Communication major, I was looking for a more hands-on approach to enhance my academics. By founding MOCA at the end of my freshman year, I have been able to put the communication theory that I have learned in the classroom into practice. My MOCA colleagues and I work side-by-side with the Office of Admissions staff to ensure that CALS continues to uphold its strong diversity foundations.
I’ve also enjoyed my valuable experiences during my two past internships: the first at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, and the second and most recent at McGraw-Hill Higher Education in New York City. I was able to integrate communication and marketing skills in the latter, both of which have been integral to my curricula at Cornell.
Awards and Recognitions
