Describe your experience at CALS
CALS has truly shaped both my undergraduate career,as well as develop my interests into potential career paths. Having explored the variety of CALS majors, moving from Atmospheric Science to Biological Sciences, I have gained an appreciation for how specialized an education a student is able to get in this school. In CALS, I have had the opportunity to take courses that will both strengthen my position for a career in medicine, as well as satisfy the unique passion for weather that I share with friends back on the top floor of Bradfield Hall where meteorology is located. Interesting electives in public speaking and business have been very useful and have rounded out my CALS experience. I believe that the rich history and distinctive programs of CALS is the reason why Cornell is so different from other universities.
Advice to a prospective student looking at CALS
The sheer diversity of fields makes CALS what I feel is a great option for students undecided about their future. While I always hear students in other colleges complaining of unnecessary distribution requirements, I felt nearly all of my CALS classes worthwhile, with my schedule largely up to my own choosing. I also felt a sense of friendliness, and down-to-earth attitude among the faculty and staff that was unmatched elsewhere at Cornell. The Career center is the best of its kind on campus, and once Mann Library is finished, the Ag School will quite simply be the place to be!
