Transfer credit is awarded by the college registrar after receipt of final transcripts and official AP/IB scores. Admitted and enrolling students are responsible for having transcripts and official scores sent promptly upon completion of their final term or semester prior to transferring. A tentative evaluation of transfer credits is sent upon acceptance. Courses that do not qualify as college distribution requirements are generally awarded credit as electives taken to complete the college's overall requirements.
Courses from your current college that will transfer
Transfer credit is awarded for course work completed at any accredited community 2 or 4 year college or university and for which you were awarded a grade of C or better, as long as the courses are applicable toward the college's graduation requirements. No more than 60 semester credit hours will be accepted for transfer, including summer courses. The Non-Cornell Credit Policy can be found on the CALS Registrar website.
Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), International Credentials, and college course work done during high school
Cornell University awards credit for AP and IB based on a student's test scores.
Cornell University does not accept credit for courses sponsored by colleges but taught in high schools to high school students, such as Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA), even if the college provides a transcript for such courses (see the CALS college credit while earned in high school policy).
If your current institution has given you credit for courses which will not receive credit at Cornell University, and therefore you may not have the required preparatory course work completed, we encourage you to contact the CALS Admission Office for appropriate advising.
Cornell credits required for graduation
CALS requires matriculated students to complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of course work at Cornell University in order to graduate.
