RESEARCH FOCUS
My goal is to understand the population diversity of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) across New York State and how it relates to the severity and spread of black rot in the field and in the greenhouse. I am interested in the efficacy of control strategies for this pathogen. The relative role of weeds and soil debris as sources of the pathogen Xcc in New York is unknown. In other locations, cruciferous weeds have been shown to harbor Xcc, contributing to field infections of black rot. One goal of my study is to determine if weeds serve as a pathogen reservoir for subsequent seasons in New York.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2007 Graduate Teaching Assistant, Department of Plant Pathology-Cornell, under the direction of Dr. Michael Milgroom for Plant Path 301: Plant Disease and Disease Management. Responsibilities include teaching a laboratory section (diagnostic techniques, sample collections, pathogen culturing techniques), preparing quizzes, grading of assignments.

2003-2004 Technician for Herb Aldwinckle and William Turechek doing field, greenhouse, and lab work and disease rating on apple and small fruit and berry diseases. Planting, harvesting, greenhouse care of plants including pesticide applications, disease rating and record keeping, fungal and bacterial isolations and inoculations
1999-2003 Technician for Dennis Gonsalves greenhouse and laboratory work, papaya tissue culture project including making of all media, transfers of cultures, use of gene “gun” to make new constructs, pesticide applications, following NY State regulations for shipping plants.
