The Department of Horticultural Sciences is located at the Geneva Campus, which houses four academic departments focusing on fruits and vegetables, as well as the New York State IPM Program, USDA-ARS Plant Germplasm Research Unit, USDA-ARS Grape Genetics Research Unit, the New York State Seed Testing Laboratory, and is adjacent to the Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park.
Geneva is a city of 19,000 located at the north end of Seneca Lake, 50 miles northwest of Ithaca. Research facilities for the department include two laboratory buildings, Hedrick and Sturtevant Halls, with modern research and office space for faculty, technical staff, and graduate students. Well-equipped laboratories are available for various "-omics", molecular biology, physiology, transformation, tissue culture, anatomy, and seed technology. Department researchers make use of the Station's eight nearby research farms, totalling 850 acres of prime fruit and vegetable soil, and 65,000 square feet of greenhouse space each with their own support staff. A Raw Products Building provides fruit and vegetable processing facilities as well as refrigerated and controlled atmosphere storage. A wide range of apple, grape, tart cherry, and vegetable germplasm is available at the National Germplasm Repository.
On campus, the Geneva Library provides advanced reference services, rapid access to paper texts from any library and direct electronic access to all Cornell library resources, as well as Cornell's collection of wine monographs. Other services include a fully staffed publications and print shop and a fleet garage.
