The undergraduate minor in education gives students a planned core of courses to provide them with an overview of education as a field. One option prepares students to move into the graduate segment of the Cornell Teacher Education (CTE) program. Other options provide preparation for admission into other graduate teacher certification programs or a background for other professional venues such as extension, business, and industry.
Any undergraduate student in the University may enroll, subject to availability in courses required for the minor/concentration. The education minor is official in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and is recognized as either a minor or concentration in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Human Ecology, Engineering, and the Schools Hotel Administration and Industrial and Labor Relations. Please inquire about the status of other colleges or schools. Students who wish to pursue a minor/concentration in education must complete and submit an application to the Education Department.
Students must meet with an advisor or director of students services (DSS) of their majors and the director of the minor/concentration (Bill Camp) to assist them in planning their programs of study within the context of their majors. Students pursuing the Cornell Teacher Education option must be formally accepted into the undergraduate portion of the Cornell Teacher Education program and have an assigned education advisor in their content area of interest.
Students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) must submit an Application to Graduate form (available online or from your college registrar's office). Other colleges and schools may have different requirements for verifying the completion of the minor/concentration (check with your registrar). Satisfactory completion of the requirements for the undergraduate minor/concentration in education must be verified by Bill Camp or your education advisor on the Application to Graduate or the verification of a minor/concentration in education form.
Declared minors will be given priority for required courses, but are not guaranteed enrollment in any given semester. Students should retain copies of all paperwork submitted for the minor/concentration. Please direct any questions to Bill Camp.
