Associate Agent
Non-Tenure Track Faculty
(12 month, 40 hours/week, Contract Position)
The FSNE Gardening for Nutrition Educator is a full-time non-tenure track Associate Agent position. The position is part of the Food Supplement Nutrition Education program (FSNE) conducted by University of Maryland Cooperative Extension. FSNE provides nutrition programming to food stamp participants and those income-eligible for food stamps. The educator will provide nutrition education programs for food stamp participants in Baltimore County and Baltimore City. The position will be housed at the University of Maryland Extension office in Baltimore County.
Responsibilities:
· Train teachers, school staff and after school providers to teach young people about food production and healthful eating in fun and creative ways.
· Plan, implement and monitor gardening for nutrition education programs for food stamp recipients and those eligible for food stamps.
· Work with program sites to acquire gardening resources with the aim of developing self-sustaining gardens and programs.
· Working cooperatively with diverse cultures and audiences.
· Use FSNE evaluation instruments to conduct program assessment and report formative, process, and outcome evaluation data.
· Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations to plan implement and evaluate FSNE programs and seek new partnerships to deliver FSNE programs.
· Assist with the development of the FSNW annual proposal with input from team members and collaborators.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required-
· BS in nutrition, health education, science education, agriculture or a related field.
· Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful with skills and experience in conducting community-based education programs. They must also possess:
· Knowledge and experience in gardening
· A valid Maryland driver’s license and access to an automobile for travel in Baltimore Country and Baltimore City and to FSNE trainings.
Preferred-
· Masters Degree.
· 3 year experience in project management.
· Experience in community organizing and/or partnering with grassroots communities and schools.
· Experience in working with diverse cultures and audiences.
· Master Gardener Certification (or interest in becoming a Master Gardener).
Salary: Commensurate with experience (40 hours/week).
