Job Description
Rochester City School District is currently seeking a Plant Science (Horticulture) Teacher for students with special needs. Candidate must posses skills in basic landscape design, grounds keeping and maintenance and be proficient in horticulture (including green house applications). NYS Dual certification in Plant Sciences/ CTE and Special Education is preferred.
Responsibilities include: producing and implementing appropriate horticultural programs that conform to NY state guidelines; managing the daily operation of a school Greenhouse; planning and setting daily tasks for individuals that take account of their mental and physical abilities/needs; demonstrating how to use tools and materials safely; making sure that activities are effective and adjusting them as necessary; monitoring and undertaking program review concerning individual program effectiveness; collaborating with other professionals (social workers, teachers, psychologists ect.); teaching horticulture tasks (for example sowing seeds, pruning, soil preparations ect.); monitoring and regularly appraising progress; ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to and managing a budget ( This position includes community partnerships whose projects/sales are highly visible to the public and involve off site field work with students which include consistent application of effective gardening practices.
