Job Description
The Division of Plant Industry is responsible for maintaining plant health, promoting the statewide adoption of integrated pest management practices, monitoring the availability and labeling of basic agricultural commodities (seed, commercial fertilizers and composts claiming plan nutrient value, agricultural liming materials), ammonium nitrate security, and detecting and preventing the spread of bee diseases.
The Director will be responsible for directing a variety of statewide activities relating to the plant pests and diseases, plant growers and distributors, and inspection/labeling/sale/distribution of plant materials. Other responsibilities include: developing an annual budget, monitoring revenues and expenditures, managing the Division staff and working cooperatively with other states, local and federal agencies.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Agriculture or an environmental or natural science discipline, and eight years of progressively responsible experience working in an industry, governmental or educational organization providing leadership, planning and implementation of policy, programs and projects that impact agricultural, horticultural and forestry resources. Four of the eight years must be in an administrative position with supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred: Experience directing programs as required by various federal or state laws and regulations.
