Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities: The chair-holder shall contribute significant and unique enhancements to the department’s existing scholarly activities in research, teaching, and service.
Research: The incumbent is expected to conduct extramurally funded entomological research that will enhance cotton production and pest management programs. Potential research areas could include ecological, genetic, and physiological aspects of arthropods in cotton agroecosystems. Expertise in hypothesis-driven laboratory and field experimentation directed toward improving economic and environmental components of cotton production systems is expected.
Teaching: Teaching responsibilities will be developed to match the professional background and expertise of the incumbent with the academic needs of the department. The incumbent will also have responsibility for mentorship and leadership training of undergraduate and graduate students.
Resources and Facilities: The incumbent will be provided with 2,400 ft2 of newly renovated office and laboratory space (http://insects.tamu.edu/parencia), access to greenhouse space, field sites, and a generous startup package. The incumbent will have access to funds generated by the Charles R. Parencia endowment.
Anticipated Starting Date: January 1, 2010, or until a suitable applicant is hired.

Service/Engagement: The incumbent is expected to provide state, national and international leadership in cotton entomology. Part of this expectation is that the incumbent be in communication with producer groups, industry professionals, and colleagues from all aspects of the land grant system. The incumbent is expected to also engage in Department, College, University and Professional service. The chair-holder is expected to exhibit and promote collegiality among faculty, staff, students, clientele groups, and local administrators.
Administrative Relationship: The Chair will report to the Department of Entomology Head, and to the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Entomology or closely related biological science from an accredited university is required, as well as professional expertise and recognition appropriate to a Professor and Chair at Texas A&M University (http://rules.tamu.edu/PDFs/12.01.99.M2.01.pdf). We seek candidate with demonstrated abilities to develop and work effectively with interdisciplinary teams, to operate easily across discovery, translational, and implementation research; to communicate effectively among diverse audiences; and to sustain a record of substantial extramural funding in pursuit of scholarly activities.
