Description:
Reporting directly to Newsweek's CFO, the divisional Controller (division of The Washington Post Company "WPO") will manage a small team and oversee all accounting tasks associated with Newsweek's domestic, international and digital operations.
Responsibilities:
The Controller's major responsibilities will include: financial-close process, management reporting, entity-wide SOX controls, and recruitment and development
Manage a team covering duties such as cash management, A/R, A/P, payroll, purchasing and procurement, fixed assets, audits and compliance, and maintenance of the books and records on all company transactions
Supervise both domestic and international accounting operations
Oversee financial reporting and coordinate monthly and quarterly close process: prepare consolidated and detailed financial statements and analyses; ensure accuracy in reporting and meet corporate reporting deadlines; meet monthly with the CEO and CFO to review results
Ensure financial compliance with WPO procedures and government regulations: assist WPO in preparing quarterly and annual SEC filings; coordinate and prepare annual assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX 404)
Recommend and implement changes to controls in order to effectively manage and control the business. Coordinate and implement new accounting and reporting standards
Oversee all technical accounting guidance. Engage in accounting related matters, as needed, across the global organization: provide direction, advice and recommendation to all levels of the organization regarding accounting policy and practices; support M&A and other non-routine business transaction
Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
BA/BS in Accounting required; MBA preferred
CPA required; CFA preferred
8+ years minimum experience in accounting and financial management required; 5+ supervisory experience required
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX; understanding of IFRS preferred
Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements
Audit experience and tax experience a plus
Excellent financial and analytical skills; strong leadership skills; strong attention to detail; hands-on; results-oriented self-starter; collaborative and team-oriented; excellent communication skills; uncompromising integrity
Demonstrated ability to become proficient with a variety of financial software products including Excel, Oracle, SAP, payroll/HR systems, and various other web-based applications
