RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Non-Tenure Track Faculty

Contract, Full Time (12-Month Appointment)

 

Location:Department of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture, 2102 Plant Sciences Building

 

Purpose of the Position:

Drought is one of the most common abiotic stresses that lead to substantial losses in productivity of crops worldwide. Phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) is a very important factor in controlling abiotic stress responses in plants. ABA levels increase rapidly upon drought stress to regulate downstream responses including drought stress-responsive gene expression and stomata movements to minimize the cellular damages imposed by drought stress. While ABA accumulation itself is a well-known response to drought stress, the molecular factors that control ABA accumulation and connect ABA to downstream responses are largely unknown.

 

Responsibilities:

• The qualified applicant will focus his/her research on identification of molecular   components which regulate the increase in ABA content under drought stress   through detailed characterization of Arabidopsis mutants defective in ABA   accumulation and drought stress responses.
• The research   associate will employ genetic, biochemical, and/or other plant molecular   approaches dissecting the molecular basis of drought stress-induced ABA accumulation in   plants.
• The   successful candidate may also be responsible to produce transgenic plants   ectopically expressing a subset of isolated genes from this project in   crop species.

Required –

• A Ph.D. in plant biology    or a related discipline.
• A strong interest in plant    research.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary will be commensurate with experience, with base salary of $35,000. A subsidy will be provided towards a benefits package.
