Job Description
General Summary:
We are currently seeking a Quality Assurance Technologist. The position will primarily be responsible for maintaining product specifications; truck/warehouse product audits & cuttings on all current corporate brand items; follow up with manufacturers to resolve product inconsistencies and variations to specifications; follow up with appropriate departments on customer quality complaints and recalls; and collaborate with the business management team in product development.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and manage a corporate brand quality assurance testing program with comprehensive recordkeeping; consisting of regular truck/warehouse product audits, cuttings and evaluations
- Communicates with trade partners to resolve issues or concerns regarding current product quality and recommends solutions for corrective action; identifying manufacturers who are not able to meet established quality standards
- Maintains product specifications and files; reviewing issues with appropriate parties to highlight products that are not up to spec or are not national brand equivalent
- Develops, implements and manages Quality Assurance operational procedures, policies, programs and systems
- Works cross functionally with 3rd party business partners to review Quality Assurance procedures, issues and opportunities
- Understands and compiles federal and state regulations
Main Tasks:
- Reviews potential private label items to ensure their quality level complies with corporate brand policies; evaluates and performs cuttings of all private label products
- Communicates with current and potential suppliers of private label products to obtain needed information and to ensure guidelines are maintained. Also follows up on quality issues with the suppliers
- Reviews and updates official specifications on all private label products to ensure required quality levels are consistent and maintained
- Follows up with trade partners on customer complaints for corrective action.
- Serves as technical resource and support in all areas of involvement; such as product recalls, consumer complaints and Nuval (Nutritional Rating System)
- Stays abreast of FDA and other regulatory agencies’ requirements to ensure the company’s compliance
- Maintains records and prepares reports
- Directs Corporate Brand Quality Assurance Programs as audited by outside independent laboratories for conformity to finished product specifications
Job Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum 2 years in Quality Assurance or related discipline; Bachelor’s degree in food technology, food science, chemistry, biology or microbiology.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of appropriate federal, state and local rules and regulations.
- Strong administrative, managerial, communication and organizational skills.
- Good analytical ability to gather and interpret technical information and to develop, recommend and implement solutions.
- Knowledge of auditing and cutting procedures/techniques.
- Knowledge of basic lab equipment, such as pH meter, viscometer, and microscope.
- Knowledge of manufacturing plants, GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and sanitation practices.
