Job Description

SR. RESEARCH SPECIALIST – A full-time position; employment length will be dependent upon availability of grant funding.  Pay range: $2,250-3,628/month, and will be dependent upon amount of grant funding available and commensurate with education/experience.  Full benefits apply.

Duties:  Collect all published biological literature (electronically preferred) for the period from 1988 through the present, as it relates to the Lower Rio Grande Valley of southern Texas. Assemble the literature in a usable database to enhance the preparation of a final report to be submitted to the Lower Rio Grande National Wildlife Refuge. Data collection will involve at least 2 trips to the Refuge to meet with the Manager and personnel involved with the management of biotic resources in southern Texas. Ability to understand and assess the importance of published literature relative to fostering the goals of resource management in biotic provinces of southern Texas.  Use online and digital resources, when available, to find and assemble relevant materials, including but not limited to peer-reviewed literature (see above), geospatial open-access resources available from various federal and state agencies, and listings of relevant websites that enhance the understanding of biotic provinces of southern Texas. Assist in the preparation of the final report from 1) co-development of its working outline with personnel from the Lower Rio Grande National Wildlife Refuge, 2) preparing various sections of the report, and 3) final editing and presentation of the report.  Assist with compiling, writing, and editing final report on conservation and natural history of Lower Rio Grande Valley.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:  B.S. in Biology, Natural Resource Management or related field and 1 to 2 years related experience is required.  Ability to work independently, excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and balance multiple projects.  Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and GIS.  M.S. in Biology, Natural Resource Management or related field is preferred.
