PRODUCT TECHNOLOGIST
Summary
Position aids in the analytical and research support creating new products/processes from concept through commercialization. Modifies/optimizes existing products by using established scientific methodologies, technologies, and procedures. Performs benchtop work to provide prototype samples. Conducts basic food science experiments under the guidance of Product Scientists or other members of the R&D team.
Accountabilities
The following are essential job accountabilities:
- Works independently or in a team to assess the feasibility and functionality of new products/ingredients
- Applies basic skills to collect and analyze data while supporting numerous experiments
- Assesses and makes recommendations on routine problems
- Documents findings, formulas, and processes information through research reports and presentations
- Interacts on a day to day level with the pilot plant staff and Product Scientists
- Communicate with suppliers to gather technical information associated with specific ingredients
- Works within established process improvement and cost reduction scenarios

Qualifications
- Understanding of the scientific method
- Ability to perform and confirm experiments
- Some proficiency in Food Science Technologies
- Working knowledge of food processing and good manufacturing process.
- Works independently or in a group on multiple projects
- Excellent project management skills
- Proficient in relevant computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
- General understanding of business processes
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable Education/Experience
- BS in Food Science or related field with 1 to 2 years of food industry experience
- MS in Food Science or related field with little or no experience
