PRODUCT SCIENTIST
Summary
Position is responsible for providing analytical and research support creating new products/processes from concept through commercialization. Modifies/optimizes existing products by using established scientific methodologies, technologies, and procedures. Manages routine assignments and conducts basic food science experiments with moderate independence and guidance from other members of the R&D team.
Accountabilities
The following are essential job accountabilities:
- Works independently or in a team to research the feasibility and functionality of new products/processes
- Applies basic and some advanced skills to collect and analyze data while conducting numerous experiments
- Assesses and makes recommendations on routine problems while consulting higher levels for more complex problems
- Documents findings, formulas, and processes information through research reports and presentations
- Interacts on a day to day level with the pilot plant staff and may manage intern food technicians
- Communicate with suppliers to gather pricing information of materials and equipment
- Works with established process improvement and cost reduction scenarios
Specifications
- Understanding of the scientific method
- Ability to develop, conduct, and confirm experiments
- Proficient in Food Science Technologies
- Working knowledge of ice cream manufacturing equipment and their functions
- Works independently or in a group on multiple projects
- Excellent project management skills
- Competent computer skills
- General understanding of business processes
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Qualifications
Desirable Education/Experience
- BS in Food Science or related field with 2-4+ years of food industry experience
- MS in Food Science or related field with 1-2+ years of food industry experience
- Ph.D. in Food Science or related field with little or no industry experience (entry level)
