Job Description
The Associate Agent will:
a) serve as State representative on various statewide and Chesapeake Bay Program Committees, preparing and negotiating policy positions,
b) coordinate with the Governor's Bay Cabinet and Bay Workgroup staff on a monthly basis to help direct memos, draft reports, and develop policies,
c) provide a coordination between the Chesapeake Bay Program and other state agency programs or initiatives,
d) represent the State in working with local jurisdictions to develop partnerships to address Chesapeake Bay restoration initiatives,
e) disseminate Chesapeake Bay related information through presentations, publications, public meetings, and World Wide Web presence, and
f) initiate and maintain relationships with the academic, nonprofit and business communities to enhance restoration by evaluating emerging science, management tools and practices (models, policies, etc) and assisting in their development and implementation.
Job Qualifications
Required -
- the candidate must have a BS degree in a discipline related to watershed management topics such as natural resource economics, natural resource sciences, natural resource management, environmental policy, etc.
- the individual must possess the ability to work independently, to function as part of interdepartmental and multi-institutional teams, and to secure funding for programs related to the position function.
- strong oral, written and electronic communication skills are essential.
- the employee should be willing to travel locally and occasionally work nights and on weekends.
Preferred -
- MS in a discipline related to watershed management topics such as natural resource economics, natural resource sciences, natural resource management, environmental policy, etc.
- Practical work experience in natural resource management, extension or environmental policy is desirable.
Salary
Commensurate with training and experience. Base salary is 43,000 with additional increments allowed for additional training and experience. University of Maryland fringe benefits are provided.
