Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- execute annual inquiries on fishing fleets, fishery workers and vessel information including follow-up correspondence with national and international informants, evaluate quality and completeness of data received and estimate missing data through analysis, cross-checking with other relevant information and other modeling techniques;
- prepare the fleet and fishery employment statistics and vessel information for dissemination;
- ensure the maintenance and development of databases and other information systems on fishing vessels including the records of vessels authorised to fish on the high seas in support of the FAO Compliance Agreement;
- prepare data sets for publications and studies of the relevant areas in response to ad hoc requests;
- undertake the statistical work and analysis and provide report relating to trend and status of fishing fleet and employment and other issues relating to vessel information and their operations;
- provide technical assistance to countries in relation to fishing fleet and employment statistics, maintenance of vessel registries and monitoring of vessel related information;
- participate in the development of methodology, standards, and classifications of collating and disseminating data relating with fishing vessels, fleets and fishery workers;
- maintain close collaboration with other units of the Fisheries Department and with regional fishery organizations and other agencies to ensure close coordination and exchange of data and information;
- perform other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
- Advanced University Degree in Statistics, Fishery Science or Quantitative Economics
- Five years of relevant experience in national or international organizations or other institutions in the field of collection, compilation, screening for quality, processing, analysis, and dissemination of vessel related or socio-economic data and information
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of the other two
Salary
Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US 84,377 to 108,583 (without dependants) and from US 90,393 to 116,739 (with dependants)
