Job Description
Mathematics faculty are responsible for teaching courses ranging from elementary mathematics through linear algebra. Because MCC is a multi-campus college, courses in the department may be assigned at the Brighton and/or Damon City Campus. In addition to teaching and maintaining accurate records on students, tenure-track faculty develop new educational materials, assist with curriculum review and academic assessment, advise and counsel students, and hold office hours. Tenure-track faculty also perform professional and administrative duties and participate in departmental and institutional functions, including departmental meetings and committee work. Faculty carry out these responsibilities in an effort to realize the College's mission. - Teach mathematics courses from basic algebra through calculus, differential equations and linear algebra, including statistics and mathematics for non-science majors. Prepare lesson plans, teaching aids, instructional materials, and student activities for these courses.
- Evaluate student performance as per guidelines set by the department and Monroe Community College.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other records required by the college.
- Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines.
- Advise students concerning professional, academic, and related issues.
- Assist with curriculum review, revision, and development in the department.
- Actively participates in academic assessment activities to further the improvement of course design and instruction.
- Attend departmental meetings as a contributing member.
- Contribute to the department through department committees.
- Contribute to the college through division and college committees.
- Participate in professional development activities.
Job Qualifications
- Evidence of recent successful teaching experience in mathematics at the secondary, college or university level.
- Knowledge of or experience in implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
- Commitment to the appropriate use of technology as an instructional tool.
- Experience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses.
- Experience with or willingness to learn electronic communication within a networked environment.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Willingness to serve students through academic advising, mentoring, etc.
- Willingness to serve the college through governance and college-wide committees.
