Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TCI promotes investment in agriculture and rural development in developing countries and countries in transition, assisting governments, international financing institutions and other development partners to achieve growth, poverty alleviation and food security.
The Senior Economist will:
- lead identification and preparation of investment projects and programmes projects in the fields of agriculture, including fisheries and forestry, and rural development;
- lead the assessment of the feasibility of proposals through studying market prospects, prices, costs and risks, and carrying out financial and economic analysis;
- coordinate the evaluation of performance of investment projects or programmes during implementation, and their impact after completion; make recommendations for future investments;
- lease the assessment of investment implications of agricultural and rural development policies and national plans and programmes for poverty alleviation and food security;
- enhance analytical and operational methodologies related to economic and financial aspects in the context of evolving aid modalities;
- advise the Service Chief on tasks' management, field mission organization and terms of reference, selection of consultants and supervision of their work and in ensuring the quality of the Service outputs;
- take responsibility for some Service management tasks, such as thematic and country groups/networks, or cooperation programmes with FAO partners;
- facilitate exchange of critical information and validate the findings and recommendations regarding the investment proposals;
- perform other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
- Advanced university degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Natural Resources Economics, or a closely related field
- Ten years of relevant experience in the practical application of economic analysis to development issues and in the identification and preparation of investment operations in agricultural and rural development, including experience in developing countries and/or countries in transition
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two, or Arabic or Chinese or Russian
Salary
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US 113,676 to 133,950 (without dependants) and from US 122,364 to 145,368 (with dependants)
