Voluntary Leave of Absence
Students on Voluntary Leave of Absence from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who wish to return must notify the CALS Registrar's Office before returning to Cornell. You can call (607) 255-2017, or click the link above to send e-mail. (See below for course enrollment information.)
Students returning from Voluntary Leave after 5 or more years away need to submit a petition for readmission. A petition form can be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed to you by contacting the Counseling and Advising office, (607) 254-5386. Due to the time involved in getting course enrollment in order and processing petition requests, the process should be started at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the semester for which you wish to return.
Restricted Leave of Absence
In addition to notifying the Registrar's Office, students on Restricted Leave of Absence must submit a petition to the Committee on Academic Achievement and Petitions. A petition form can be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed to you by contacting the Counseling and Advising office, (607) 254-5386. If you have been on Restricted Leave for more than 5 years, only one petition is necessary. Due to the time involved in getting course enrollment in order and processing petition requests, the process should be started at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the semester for which you wish to return. If completion of courses at another institution is part of your return request, you may submit the bulk of your request early, and provide a final transcript from the other institution when it is available.
Leaves issued by Gannett
If your leave was issued by Gannett: Cornell University Health Services, evaluation will be necessary before returning. Contact Gannett Health Center at (607) 255-5155 for instructions, and also notify the CALS Registrar's Office of your intent to return. Students returning from a leave issued by Gannett may not pre-enroll until Gannett has informed the college of the approved return.
Course Pre-Enrollment
Returning students wishing to pre-enroll for courses are able to use the on-line pre-enrollment method during the enrollment period for their class standing. See http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Student/spring2010pre.html for enrollment periods.
In the case of restricted or Gannett leaves, you must secure permission to return (see above) before you can be given access to the electronic system.
To gain access to the electronic system after receiving permission, or if your leave is voluntary/non-restricted, contact the CALS Registrar at cals_registrar@cornell.edu and explain that you are returning from a leave and would like to pre-enroll electronically. They will create a "semester header" for you, which will give you access to the system, but only for the days that match your enrollment period. You will not have access before or after the dates and times listed on the University Registrar's enrollment information page (linked above).
If you took classes elsewhere while on leave, send an official transcript to the CALS Registrar's Office, 140 Roberts Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853. Contact your faculty advisor for guidance in course selection, especially if you took classes elsewhere. You'll want to know where they fit in with your requirements before selecting your courses for the upcoming semester. Once courses are identified, access the CoursEnroll website through Student Center during your enrollment period to enter your requests.
If you miss your electronic enrollment period, you can still enroll by sending your course requests via e-mail the CALS Registrar's Office - CALS_Registrar@cornell.edu. You can be enrolled in open CALS courses only; courses offered through other colleges will have to be added during the add/drop period at the beginning of the semester. Course requests should be in the following format:
ANSC 1105 - Contemporary Perspectives of Animal Science
1CR Graded
3027 LEC 001
