For study abroad outside of the academic year/semester--summer, winter session, spring break--college approval is usually not required. Students do not apply through CALS or Cornell Abroad but are welcome to access information and resources in both offices.
Many academic year and semester study abroad options found through Cornell Abroad also offer summer programs. You may also research on internet sites such as: www.studyabroad.com. Are you interested in Marine Biology? You can take Cornell University courses over the summer at the Shoals Marine Laboratory. There are also various Cornell study tours.
Students are responsible for short term study abroad; dealing directly with the programs to which they apply about applications, costs, academic credit, travel plans, housing, billing, etc.
If you want your study abroad/transfer/non-Cornell credit to fulfill specific major or college distribution requirements, you should contact the CALS Registrar in 140 Roberts Hall for more information.
In most cases financial aid is not available for summer study abroad, but there may be exceptions. Ask the financial aid office in Day Hall; you should also ask the program you're interested in about any scholarships, grants or financial aid opportunities.
