New CALS IT Staff
This page is both for new IT staff in CALS and for their supervisors. The following checklist will help provide new IT staff with the resources they need to settle in and be a part of the IT community.
General Administrative Tasks
Activate email and update directory entry
Review the Cornell University Staff Handbook
Review the Cornell University Orientation web pages
Obtain keys as appropriate
Obtain an ID card from Day Hall (HR will coordinate this)
Obtain a parking permit if desired
Sign up for MealChoice if desired
Acquire a cell phone or desk phone as appropriate
Investigate Cornell's Extension to Cellular service if appropriate/desired
Become familiar with COLTS
Become familiar with the buildings in your service area (
campus map here
)
Acquire a purchasing card if appropriate
Supervisors should facilitate updating of departmental/service area web sites, directories, business cards, door signs, etc.
Personal Computer and IT-Related Tasks
Acquire a computer. Access to a loaner may be necessary if a new one is ordered
Become familiar with the Cornell IT Rights and Responsibilities policies
Obtain a Calsnet (Windows domain) account if appropriate
Get added into the tech support Calsnet group for the service area
Get added as a netadmin in DNSDB for appropriate subnets and domains
Sign up for EZBackup if desired
Sign up for Oracle Calendar
Get added to the Oracle Calendar CALS tech group (request goes to

Sign up for email lists
