CALS IT Bulletins
Concerns about confidential data. Polly McClure's recent email about confidential data on workstations has generated interest in finding and properly handling such data. A pilot program will begin late in July 2006 in several departments in CALS to help faculty and staff learn to use Spider (a program that locates such data on hard disks) as well as how to determine handling for data that it finds.
New service - the CALS Public Windows domain. The CALS Public Windows domain will be a complement to the Calsnet Windows domain which is mainly for faculty and staff. CALS Public will be initially available in the CALS public labs and will be open to anyone. Faculty on Calsnet can have full access to teaching resources in the Public network without exposing their systems and data to unnecessary security risks. The new system should be operational by the end of summer 2006. John Peters and Phil Halcomb are the contacts for this new system.
