Tell us a little bit about your BEE experience
"I started off as a bio major, but switched to BEE when I started to desire something more computationally intensive. I'm currently double majoring in the accredited Biological Engineering program along with the Environmental Engineering stand-alone major. I got to work in the Soil and Water Lab during the summer after my sophomore year to study particulate washoff from urban surfaces. This involved building a rain simulator and getting soaked out in the parking lot of Riley Robb while trying to collect some meaningful data. It was a great intro to the world of research. I've taken a few great hydrology courses that correlate well to research going on in the lab. I've also enjoyed some fascinating parts of the CEE world, like the current research going on to efficiently improve drinking water quality in the Global South. I've enjoyed being an environmental engineering student here as it allows you to take advantage of the best of two departments."
What are your future plans?
"Despite my love for Cornell, I'm pretty excited to leave school behind for the first time in my life and begin my career. I plan to start at an environmental consulting firm where I'll learn more about real world problems and their practical solutions. I am particularly interested in the remediation and restoration of surface water features. I look forward to working with the new technologies available for the modeling and remediation of sensitive environmental areas."
