Emily Réjouis wanted to become a journalist, so she chose to major in communication. Even though the major focuses on research and communication theory, Cornell’s vast resources and encouragement of interdisciplinary study allowed her to work on a minor with Applied Economics and Management. Her enthusiasm and the broad scope of Cornell encouraged Réjouis to dive into activities outside of her academic interests.
“Extracurriculars were such a huge part of my Cornell experience!” she says. “I started off my first year with cultural and career-focused organizations like the Haitian Students Association and Triple IQ Investment Club, as well as serving as the news writer for the CALS Alumni Magazine. Sophomore year I founded an organization called the Multicultural Organization of Consulting Affairs, which works with the CALS Admissions Office to help make the college more marketable to a diverse array of students.”
Réjouis also enjoyed the opportunity to dance with the Teszia Belly Dance Troupe and the Sabor Latino Dance Ensemble. Senior year she joined the Mortar Board and Lamda Pi Eta honor societies, and worked as the public relations intern for the Johnson School of Management.
Réjouis hopes to put her talents to use with charity work. She wants to champion the V-day movement, which raises money for organizations combating violence against women.
Next year, Réjouis will work in New York City, marketing at L'Oréal USA in the luxury products division. New hires start with a one-year Management Development Program with rotations in famous brands such as Giorgio Armani Beauty, Ralph Lauren fragrance, Lancôme, Shu Uemura and Kiehl's.
After that, she plans to return to school for her MBA, and focus on strategy and entrepreneurship.
