The Cornell Maple Program
The Cornell Maple Program has been and can continue to be a source for innovation in forest management, production technologies, and market development for the benefit of producers and consumers of maple sugar products.
Pure maple syrup is a traditional natural product unique to North America. The Cornell Sugar Maple Program exists to improve the production and use of maple products by working with producers, consumers, and others interested in this fascinating local product.
Cornell’s program has been a leader in research discovery and has developed innovative extension education efforts. Cornell’s current research program consists of the following major components:
- Genetic improvement
- Tree and forest management
- Sap collection improvements
- Syrup production
- Marketing
- Product development
With declining government support for applied practical research and education programs, there is a growing need for private support and creation of endowment funding to maintain the program’s effectiveness.
