Susan A. Henry, the Ronald P. Lynch Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) established the Office of Land Grant Affairs (OLGA) in the College. (Read the news release.) This office supports the Land-Grant Mission of the College and University by facilitating applied research, extension and other forms of outreach that address the needs of society and produce diverse public benefits. The Office of Land Grant Affairs actively works in collaboration with other administrative offices in CALS to support Land-Grant Mission initiatives (read about the CALS academic priorities) and communicate program impacts to stakeholders.

Focus of Activities

1. Developing and systematically revisiting a “Vision of the Land-Grant Mission of CALS for the 21st Century.” See also CALS Vision and Mission, What is a Land-Grant College?, and Cornell as a Land-Grant Institution.
2. Supporting effective and coordinated, college-wide representation to stakeholder organizations.
3. Promoting stakeholder-relevant applied research and extension programs in CALS.
4. Promoting opportunities for undergraduate students to be engaged in research and internships with stakeholder organizations and CCE offices.
5. Expanding the stakeholder base benefiting from CALS applied research and extension programs.
6. Increasing stakeholder awareness of short-term and long-term beneficial impact of CALS applied research and extension programs.

Initial Priorities

• Established and guided a task force effort to design and articulate a strategy for the future Land-Grant Mission for CALS, including a vision statement and strategic guidelines. See report summary (PDF).
  
• Inventory, develop a database for, and begin to provide coordination and oversight for the representation of CALS and the Dean with internal and external entities.
